Ancient Roman Provincial Coins

Many times, provincial Roman coins were struck by makers who didn’t even know what the current Emperor looked like. Some cities (as Antioch) had mints issuing official 'empire' coinage and money for provincial use .You also will find Serapis appearing on many provincial Roman coins, often alone, sometimes in company. To the Romans , provincial coins meant anything not Greek or Roman, or later, anything outside the Roman empire.
